Light The Outdoors Naturally And Keep The Bugs Away With Tiki Torches

Forget the extension cords – electrical wires and transformers that suck up electricity! On my outdoor space I use beautiful glass tiki torches to both light my patio and, by using the proper fuel – keep the bugs at bay. One thing I have always hated were sprays – whether applied to the skin (my least favorite) or sprayed in the air (I don’t want that being breathed in by my family and pets!).

I found the glass the glass style a great fit for my outdoor space but both my wife and I were going back and forth between those and the metal tiki torches. Perhaps metal would be best with young children in the family.

We have found the number of pesky bugs to be lessened as well as a nice overall feel they produce. Plenty of compliments form the neighbors also. One of them is in the process of putting up storage buildings around his pool to do double duty as changing areas and is putting them all around – should look great!

Comparison Shopping For Appliances Makes For A Healthy Home

What do I mean by comparison shopping for appliances? Well price is important always as a healthy home also includes a healthy budget and bank account!

I am talking more about appliances that are eco friendly as well as price friendly. we recently put a new kitchen in our house. Along with insulating all the exterior walls we replaced all the major appliances with new, energy efficient ones. It is still a little too early to tell but so far we are seeing some savings. I would assume that after one year we will really see some.

Shower mold and mildew are not only nasty to look at but imagine what they are doing to you and your family. There are a few ways to help prevent this from happening in the first place. Keeping and using a squeegee in the shower is the first step in preventing mold buildup. After showering, simply remove excess moisture from the tub surround with a squeegee. This will promote faster drying of the surfaces.
Proper ventilation is also important. An exhaust fan venting to the outside is key. It should be left on for at least 20 minutes after exiting the bathroom. Many of the newer fans automatically stay on after leaving the room. If a vent fan is not available, leaving a window cracked is the next best thing.
mold and mildew can occur no matter how hard you try to prevent it and usually occurs around the bottom of the tub surround or shower pan. These areas need to be periodically re-caulked as part of normal home maintenance.
If mold and mildew are evident around the grout lines this can indicate that there is moisture behind the walls. This can be caused by improper initial installation of the shower pan or drain. mant times the “weep holes” get caulked by mistake by the homeowner and even sometimes by the installer. These weep holes are designed to allow water to “weep” out from behind the tiles and run down into the drain.
Missing grout can also be a cause of water getting behind the tiles. Check to see if this is the case. Re-grouting is sometimes part of normal home ownership also and should be dome by a trained pro.
There are many products available designed to kill mold and these should be used instead of bleach. Bleach can make mold spores go into a defense mode. Making them release spores into the air. Most of the “big box” stores carry products to kill mold.

If you’d like to be more environmentally friendly, changing the way you clean is one of the easiest things to do. You can easily change your cleaning habits to reflect an eco-friendly mindset without sacrificing sanitation. If you want to be healthy, clean and green, try out some of the ideas below. Buy environmentally-friendly cleaners. It’s easy to find cleaners that are non-toxic, made from plant-based substances and are biodegradable. Green cleaners are often derived from plants and contain essential oils like palm kernel or coconut oil. If you like soothing scents you can find green products with natural fragrances. These safe, natural substances allow you to clean without being preoccupied with safety and worry. Ensure the best air quality at home. The chemicals in many cleaners can damage your skin or senses. Besides chemicals, you also have to consider the pollen, dust, dust mites and more that are part of your home environment. The chemicals in many aerosol air fresheners or candles can exacerbate the problems. As an alternative you could choose natural air sprays or even boil a pot of some of your favorite spices or herbs. Besides using it in your fridge, you could sprinkle a bit of baking soda on your carpet before vacuuming to create a fresh scent. Plants can make excellent natural air filters. Look for ones with broad green leaves. Clean floors mean less harmful chemicals indoors. In homes with a lot of foot traffic, it’s hard to keep floors clean for long. The toxins and pollutants that can be tracked on the bottom of shoes can create an unhealthy environment as well as making a mess. A quality doormat can help get rid of some of the unwanted substances. An even better way to alleviate the problem is to institute a no-shoe policy indoors. Environmentally-friendly cleaning at home can begin with some of these ideas, but they certainly aren’t the only ones. Substituting soap and water for antibacterial cleaners and disposing of harsh cleaners properly can be a good start for more green cleaning. When you’re ready to learn more and become for green, there tips for however you want to live. There are many simple solutions that you can use in your green lifestyle. Green cleaning simply means using more of what nature has to offer to clean your home rather than harsh synthetic chemicals. If you want to clean and be green, it’s a good way to start.
